WSNet Benefits

The data transmission in our WSNet has proven its reliability in various applications and provides significant advantages compared to other wireless technologies:

  • Use of LoRa™ radio technology as a physical basis for data transmission between end-devices and base stations (gateways),
  • large operating range (in both indoor and outdoor environments),
  • easy installation and administration of the network,
  • low initial and maintenance cost (CAPEX and OPEX), even in case of networks with large spatial coverage:
    • with only a few gateways, several thousand end-devices can be connected,
    • no additional (non-administrable) repeaters are required,
  • use of free (ISM) frequency bands: no license fees, no ongoing usage costs,
  • star-shaped topology, gateways typically acting as a transparent bridge between end-devices and the Message Management Center (MMC),
  • bidirectional communication between end-devices and gateways, or applications,
  • central and optionally fully automatic integration and configuration of the end-devices,
  • private network - data is not transmitted over a public network,
  • high data security against hacker attacks,
  • dual AES128 Encryption (hardware and software) between end-devices and gateway,
  • SSL connections to the IP network,
  • no blocking of private IP addresses by the end-devices,
  • the gateway occupies an IP address, end-devices do not need own IP addresses,
  • the end-devices are, however, uniquely addressed,
  • roaming without data loss for mobile devices,
  • localization of the end-devices.

Data Security

Prevention against hacker attacks, for instance, with the aim of industrial espionage or sabotage, is an increasing challenge in IoT applications.

WSNet offers a high degree of data security through a consistent methodology. From our point of view, the following policy is crucial:

  1. Security in design
  2. Security as a standard
  3. Security in delivery

Our consequences are, among other things,

  • an AES Encryption of all data transferred between end-devices and gateway,
  • gateway, MMC and applications require an SSL connection in the IP domain,
  • a well-thought out firmware update management
  • a secure firmware update
    • via LoRa (over-the-air), or
    • via cable
  • only signed firmware or patches can be installed
  • if a device configuration is secured by a password, it must be
    • individually assigned
    • configurable by the user
  • end-devices shall not automatically connect to unsecure public networks.
